Magna Legal Services is a trusted nationwide partner to law firms, corporations, insurance carriers, and government agencies, delivering comprehensive legal support at every stage of a case. From court reporting and record retrieval to jury consulting, investigations, litigation graphics, and language services, we help our clients navigate complex legal challenges with confidence. Our reputation is built on the expertise, dedication, and professionalism of our team, and we’re proud to foster a culture where talented people can do meaningful work and grow their careers.

Magna Legal Services is seeking a talented and driven Senior Software Engineer to join our growing technology team. This role supports our Jury Consulting business by designing and developing custom software solutions that provide a competitive advantage for our consultants and clients.

Unlike organizations that standardize around a single technology stack, we select technologies based on the problem we're solving. The ideal candidate is an adaptable engineer who enjoys learning new tools, evaluating technical tradeoffs, and applying the technologies that best meet the needs of the business.

In addition to strong software engineering expertise, we're looking for someone with exceptional communication skills and a collaborative mindset. This role is not only responsible for building high-quality software, but also for partnering with business stakeholders, translating complex technical concepts into practical solutions, and helping guide technology decisions across the organization.

We are committed to leveraging AI throughout our software development lifecycle. The ideal candidate embraces AI-assisted development tools as a core part of modern engineering, using them to improve productivity, code quality, and innovation while exercising sound engineering judgment.

This is a fully remote role, offering the opportunity to make a direct impact on the technology that supports Magna's Jury Consulting business. While this role is primarily focused on the Jury Consulting business, our engineering team collaborates across the organization. Engineers regularly contribute to shared platforms, cross-functional initiatives, and projects supporting other business lines as business priorities evolve.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain innovative software applications and services that support Magna's Jury Consulting business.
  • Partner closely with consultants, business stakeholders, product managers, and fellow engineers to understand business challenges and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts, architectural decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Design, build, and maintain applications, APIs, and services using the technologies best suited to each business problem.
  • Develop responsive, intuitive user experiences using modern front-end frameworks when appropriate.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and similar technologies to improve development efficiency, code quality, and delivery speed.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical planning, contributing thoughtful recommendations and mentoring other engineers when appropriate.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices that enable reliable, secure, and efficient software delivery.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize production applications, implementing scalable, long-term solutions to improve reliability and performance.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging technologies (including AI capabilities) to identify opportunities that improve engineering efficiency and create innovative solutions for our consultants and clients.

Desired Background

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 3+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and supporting production-grade applications.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or similar).
  • Experience designing, building, and deploying modern web applications and APIs.
  • Experience working with public cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP, or similar).
  • Strong software architecture, system design, and engineering fundamentals.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and become productive with new technologies, frameworks, and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and translate business requirements into practical technical solutions.
  • Experience working in Agile software development environments.
  • Enthusiasm for AI-assisted software development and a willingness to leverage modern AI tools as part of day-to-day engineering work.
  • Preferred Qualifications

Experience with one or more of the following:

  • .NET/C#
  • Node.js
  • React and/or modern JavaScript frameworks
  • Python
  • TypeScript
  • PostgreSQL or other relational database management systems
  • Microsoft Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms
  • Git, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code
  • AI/LLM integrations, machine learning services, or intelligent automation
  • AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies
  • Data visualization, analytics platforms, or data engineering concepts
  • Experience in legal technology, healthcare, financial services, or other regulated industries
