La Rabida Children’s Hospital provides specialized, family-centered health care to children with medically complex conditions, disabilities, and chronic illness. Through expertise, compassion, and advocacy we help children and their families reach their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.

Our not-for-profit hospital, licensed for 49 beds, helps transition children from neonatal or pediatric intensive care to home, by providing medical, rehabilitative and developmental care, and by training families to continue treatments and manage the necessary equipment in the home. La Rabida also provides extensive rehabilitation for those recovering from wounds or burns and treatment for exacerbations of chronic conditions.

The hospital’s enhanced pediatric patient-centered medical home provides primary care to children with complex medical conditions and their siblings. Children with medical homes elsewhere come to La Rabida for specialty services. La Rabida offers a wide range of specialty services provided to children with sickle cell disease, diabetes, and many others. Children are supported in their emotional and developmental growth, particularly in cases where such growth has been interrupted by accident or disease.

Finally, La Rabida provides forensic and treatment services for children exposed to abuse and neglect, comprehensive assessments for wards of the state, early intervention for children between 0 and 3 years of age. Care coordination services for medically complex children are also provided for those who are covered by a health plan and receive care from providers in Cook County

Job Description

The Skill Advancement Supervisor provides mid-level oversight, coordination, and support for the Skill Advancement Coaching Program. This role bridges statewide leadership priorities with day-to-day coaching implementation, ensuring consistency, fidelity, and professional growth for Skill Advancement Coaches. The Skill Advancement Supervisor provides direct supervision, reflective guidance and developmental feedback to Skill Advancement Coaches, while also supporting data-driven decision-making, CQI processes, and alignment with DCFS values and well-being goals.

Clinical Responsibilities: (85%)

· Provide direct supervision, guidance, and mentoring to Skill Advancement Coaches.

· Facilitate reflective practice sessions to support coach growth, accountability, and well-being.

· Monitor coach performance and professional development needs, recommending ongoing training and resources.

· Ensure coaching practices align with program models, DCFS policies, and evidence-informed frameworks.

· Monitor fidelity of coaching sessions and provide feedback for improvement.

· Incorporate feedback from supervisors, coaches, individuals with lived experience, and leadership into program adjustments.

· Model reflective practice, healing centered engagement, motivational interviewing, and trauma-informed approaches with coaches.

· Promote coaching strategies that build the target populations skills in communication, leadership, and family-centered practice.

· Support coaches in embedding implementation science principles and healing centered engagement practices into supervisory coaching sessions.

· Serve as a communication link between the DCFS Statewide Lead and Skill Advancement Coaches.

· Facilitate regular team meetings and updates to ensure consistency and alignment with statewide priorities.

· Promote collaboration across coaching, CQI, and program teams.

· Provide in-person, individual and group coaching to DCFS investigation supervisors and other targeted audiences, focusing on leadership, communication, reflective practice, and problem-solving skills, as needed.

Administrative and Case Management Responsibilities: (15%)

· Review and analyze data related to coaching activities, outcomes, and the targeted audience’s progress.

· Partner with CQI staff and administrators to ensure accurate reporting and application of findings.

Additional Functions:

· Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

· Required: Master’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, public administration or related field; Minimum of five (5) years of experience in child welfare or related fields, including experience providing coaching, mentoring, or leadership development. Minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience in child welfare or related fields.

· Preferred: Licensed clinical or professional counselor credentials (i.e. LCSW, LCPC) and/or certification in coaching.

· Preferred: Experience designing and implementing coaching frameworks or training curricula. Experience providing coaching, mentoring, or training to supervisory or

leadership staff. Ability to mentor and guide staff in skill development and reflective practice. Familiarity with implementation science and CQI processes.

· Valid Driver’s License

· Excellent verbal and written abilities are essential, as well as a high level of computer skills

· Must be an excellent communicator and team player

· Employee must maintain automobile insurance. La Rabida strongly recommends that the employee maintain the following liability limits:

o Automobile liability/$100,000 per person per accident; bodily injury/$300,000 aggregate per accident; property damage/$50,000 per accident; and automobile medical payments/$1,000 per person

 

This is a grant funded position and not eligible for hospital-issued increases. Should the grant funding be diminished or ended, this position will be terminated.
