Job Description:

About the Role

We are seeking a Mainframe Infrastructure Software & Open Systems Tech Consultant to work directly with enterprise customers—advising, implementing, and optimizing Broadcom mainframe infrastructure and open-systems integration software solutions to help them amplify the value of their mainframe investments.

This is a high-visibility, customer-facing role designed for a driven professional who can immediately establish credibility and deliver tangible value. As a technical specialist, you will apply working knowledge of Mainframe Infrastructure Systems, Systems Programming/Operations Life Cycle Management, and Open Systems interoperability using Broadcom tooling to drive clear delivery impact within complex customer environments.

Leveraging specialized knowledge in Mainframe Systems Management, Open Systems integration (e.g., Zowe, APIs), and scripting/automation (such as REXX), you will bridge traditional mainframe infrastructure with modern enterprise open systems, craft and deliver impactful recommendations, and implement cutting-edge infrastructure software solutions for our enterprise clients. If you thrive on driving architectural innovation and platform engineering excellence, this position offers the autonomy and scope to guide mainframe organizations through critical technical evolutions.

Note: Ability to travel to client sites is required for this position.

Customer Focus

  • Strategic Account Collaboration: Partner closely with Broadcom Account Directors, Solution Architects, and partners to technically qualify infrastructure solutions, map out customer technology needs, and architect hybrid frameworks that maximize the value of their IT investments.
  • Relationship & Silo Bridging: Build deep, trusted relationships across the customer’s IT silos—bridging Mainframe Systems Programming/Operations and Open Systems teams—to comprehensively map out their infrastructure, identify core challenges, and understand the technical impact of planned projects.
  • Early-Stage Advisory: Act as a valued, high-impact resource early in the customer’s decision-making process, providing technical guidance during conceptual and ideation stages for infrastructure modernization.
  • Technical Leadership & Hands-On Validation: Lead, coordinate, and execute complex product integration demonstrations, customized Trials, and Proofs of Concept (POCs) tailored directly to the client’s unique infrastructure environment.
  • Solution Alignment & Differentiators: Effectively position and present Broadcom’s technical benefits and key competitive differentiators, ensuring that all proposed infrastructure and open-systems solution requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Documentation & Technical Specifications: Provide robust technical specifications and architecture requirements documentation to fully support and justify proposed infrastructure solutions.
  • Continuous Engagement: Maintain expert-level technical knowledge of Broadcom Mainframe Infrastructure Software and Open Systems integration products to constantly elevate the quality of customer interactions and unlock additional value-add opportunities.

Primary Functions
  • Solution Modeling & Implementation: Analyze complex hybrid environment requirements to model and execute comprehensive Mainframe Infrastructure and Open Systems integration solutions.
  • Infrastructure Optimization & Modernization: Review and refine proposed solution plans for Broadcom Mainframe Infrastructure Software. Evaluate upgrades, architectural shifts, and migration paths from competitive products to modern infrastructure management approaches.
  • Comparative Analysis: Conduct hardware, mainframe software, and open-systems interface comparative evaluations specifically tailored to maximize infrastructure efficiency and cross-platform interoperability.
  • Documentation & Technical Specifications: Provide robust technical specifications, system integration instructions, and requirements documentation to fully support and justify proposed hybrid architectural solutions.
  • Deployment Excellence: Oversee the installation, configuration, system integration, and performance tuning of assigned infrastructure solutions within complex customer environments.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Serve as the senior technical tier for post-implementation support, resolving complex system-level and integration issues.
  • Strategic Advisory & Thought Leadership: Serve as an expert consultant to analyze complex customer environments and drive actionable improvements across Mainframe Infrastructure and Open Systems frameworks. Stay ahead of emerging trends in platform engineering and open-systems integration, translating industry innovations into high-impact strategies and technical recommendations for enterprise clients.

Technical Skills & Experience
  • Mainframe Systems & Infrastructure Expertise: Deep understanding of Mainframe Infrastructure concepts, systems administration/programming practices, system utilities, and z/OS architecture components.
  • Open Systems & Cross-Platform Integration: Proven experience integrating Mainframe Infrastructure with Open Systems, including hands-on experience with Zowe, REST APIs, Model Context Protocol (MCP), CLI, or open-source hybrid integration tools.
  • Environment Configuration: Proven capability to implement, configure, or upgrade Mainframe Infrastructure software, establish security interfaces, and optimize cross-system communication layers.
  • Tooling & Scripting Languages: Proficient with REXX, Java, JCL, and experienced with modern automation or scripting languages to facilitate system management, task automation, or conversions from competitive products.
  • Market & Competitive Intelligence: Cultivate a thorough understanding of the competitive enterprise infrastructure software marketplace to effectively position Broadcom's unique technical advantages.
  • Experience & Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline combined with 8+ years of experience working with Mainframe Systems/Infrastructure Software, Open Systems interfaces, and enterprise system tools.

People and Communication Skills
  • Requirement Translation: Active listening skills with the ability to translate complex client infrastructure requests into clear, structured business needs and execution objectives.
  • Stakeholder Delivery Updates: Proven capability to deliver professional written updates to project managers and enterprise stakeholders regarding milestone progress and task statuses.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Strong technical communication skills to lead post-implementation knowledge transfer sessions, ensuring customer system administration and operations teams are fully equipped to manage the solution.
  • Structured Alignment: Experienced in aligning daily execution with established project management communication frameworks to maintain clear visibility across all teams.
