We are around 180 people, fully remote, backed by a $150M Series C investment from a16z, Sequoia Capital and Paradigm.

As a UX Researcher at Phantom, you will help us understand how people manage their money, discover opportunities, and trade with confidence. You will combine direct user understanding with behavioral data to build shared evidence that informs strategy, priorities, and execution across Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science, Marketing, Support, and leadership. The role sits within Design and partners across functions to prioritize important questions, communicate what findings mean for their work, and follow through on how insights are used.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to prioritize the questions that matter most, matching each study’s scope, method, and depth to the decision, available resources, and risk.

  • Lead discovery and evaluation across the product lifecycle: uncover unmet needs, test early concepts, and assess how shipped experiences work in people’s real contexts.

  • Partner with Data Science to connect user understanding with funnel and cohort analysis, experiments, and outcome measurement.

  • Translate research into clear insights and recommendations that inform cross-functional strategy, priorities, and product decisions. Use concise narratives, visual evidence, and working sessions to help teams and leadership understand implications, raise risks, and follow through from findings to action.

  • Bring Product, Design, and Engineering into the research process, and coach partners to run appropriate lightweight studies with a high quality bar.

  • Make research easy to engage with through clear paths for researcher-led work, coached self-service, and specialist support, backed by a well-maintained participant panel, reusable evidence, and practical tools.

  • Build a repeatable listening loop with Support, Marketing, and Data Science, combining direct research and targeted feedback to track changing needs across priority journeys and cohorts, while caring for participants and their information.

Qualifications
  • Significant experience leading product research end to end, with a portfolio showing your ownership and how your work changed product or business decisions.

  • Strong qualitative research craft and judgment about which methods fit which questions, including interviews, observation, concept testing, usability studies, and surveys. Balance speed and evidence quality according to the decision’s importance.

  • Sound analytical judgment, including the ability to partner with Data Science, interpret behavioral data, and explain sampling and evidence limitations.

  • Experience building or improving a research practice in an environment where you needed to prioritize, work independently, and help others learn.

  • Clear, direct, and kind communication, strong synthesis, and demonstrated ability to translate research into insights that inform decisions across functions. Explain implications for different audiences, challenge assumptions, surface risks, and build alignment through evidence.

  • Proactive ownership and sound judgment: make deliberate tradeoffs, deliver with urgency and quality, and move work forward when information is incomplete.

  • Curiosity about financial products and the ability to make complex or unfamiliar experiences understandable.

Nice to have

  • Experience researching consumer fintech, investing, trading, payments, or crypto.

  • Experience recruiting across diverse markets or studying trust, risk, onboarding, and repeat use.

  • Familiarity with product analytics, SQL, or AI-assisted research workflows, supported by strong human judgment.

The target base salary for this role will range between $200,000 to $250,000 with the addition of equity and benefits. This is determined by a few factors including your skillset, prior relevant experience, quality of interviews and market factors at the point in time of offer.
