Description
The Auto Analytics State Deep Dive team is the analytical partner to state leadership in Liberty Mutual's largest and most complex Personal Auto markets. In this role you will work directly with the Directors of State Operations (DSOs) on the questions that shape each state's direction.
You will analyze segment-level performance to identify targeted pricing and underwriting changes, and partner with Tactical Pricing and Underwriting teams to implement them. You will build the growth and profitability projections behind state planning and key strategic decisions, such as rating program launches, distribution strategy and responses to competitive moves. You will also monitor marketplace, operational and claims trends to catch emerging opportunities and risks early, and turn those insights into tactical actions with partners across Risk Analytics and the business.
You will join a team of three actuaries and report to the Auto Analytics State Deep Dive Team Manager. Your work will directly shape state strategy and support Liberty's goal of top-quartile profitability.
**Applicants that live within 50 miles of the following Liberty Mutual offices will have a 2 day/week hybrid requirement: Boston, MA; Portsmouth, NH; Columbus, OH; Seattle, WA; and Plano, TX.**
Responsibilities
  • Turn segmentation insight into pricing and underwriting change. Identify underwriting rules and segment-level opportunities in rating variables, coverage limits and discounts. Partner with Tactical Pricing, Underwriting and Product teams to move recommendations into implementation.
  • Inform state strategy and planning. Build policies in force (PIF), retention and loss ratio projections for annual planning, long-range growth targets, program launches and rate changes. Quantify the growth and profitability trade-offs behind major strategic decisions.
  • Monitor performance and drive tactical action. Track marketplace, operational and claims trends. Discover what is driving the changes and proactively identify opportunities for tactical actions.
  • Evaluate program launches and initiatives. Measure how new rating programs, underwriting models and state initiatives perform against expectations, including retention, renewal dislocation, mix and loss ratio. Recommend course corrections.
  • Be a trusted partner to your DSOs. Bring forward-looking insights and recommendations, answer time-sensitive business questions quickly, and frame findings around decisions, impact and trade-offs.
  • Become the expert on your states. Build deep knowledge of each state's product and program history, regulatory environment, competitive landscape and market dynamics. Use competitor filings and industry developments to anticipate change.
  • Collaborate across the organization. Work with Countrywide Analytics, Indications, Tactical Pricing, Product, Underwriting, Modeling, Claims, Reserving, Finance and Distribution so that cross-team work reflects state-specific needs.
  • Work smarter. Leverage and enhance the team's analytical tools, automation and AI to spend less time on routine work and more on interpretation and partner engagement.
  • Contribute to the team culture. Share findings, methods and state knowledge openly, and help build an inclusive, high-performing team.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or in Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) designation preferred or comparable education/designation with relevant experience.
