Corporate Tax Intern – Summer 2027

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Corporate Tax Intern will join the Corporate Tax team and gain hands-on experience supporting federal and state income tax compliance, income tax provision, tax research, and related projects.

This role provides exposure to the corporate tax function and opportunities to work closely with experienced tax professionals and cross-functional teams across National Life Group.

The intern will participate in recurring tax engagements and, as time permits, support tax systems, audits, advisory and planning activities, cross-department initiatives, and process improvement projects.

This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you will be in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days.  Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.  The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In this role, you will support recurring Corporate Tax activities and contribute to projects that strengthen tax processes, reporting, and collaboration across the organization.

• Participate in the quarterly income tax provision process supporting the financial close.
• Support quarterly and annual federal and state income tax compliance for the NLG group and Charitable Foundation.
• Assist with process improvements and updates to tax schedules, workpapers, and templates.
• Support tax ledger system testing, validation, and related tax process activities.
• Conduct tax research and support tax advisory and planning activities.
• Support tax audits and information requests, cross-department projects and communications, team training, and other special projects as time permits.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Proficiency in Excel workbooks and data analysis.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong critical and skeptical thinking skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, with strong organizational skills.
• Effective time management, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task to meet deadlines.
