The Principal, Segment QE Architect is a senior technical leader responsible for defining, designing, and scaling enterprise-wide test automation strategies, frameworks, platforms, and AI-enabled quality engineering capabilities. This role serves as the enterprise automation authority across Humana's business segments, partnering closely with Engineering, Architecture, DevOps, Product, and Quality Engineering teams to accelerate software delivery through modern automation and intelligent quality practices.
The Principal Automation Segment Architect will lead the adoption of automation-first testing approaches, establish enterprise standards and frameworks, drive AI-enabled testing innovations, and provide technical leadership for quality engineering transformation initiatives. This individual will be responsible for designing scalable automation solutions leveraging technologies such as Selenium, Playwright, REST Assured , Tricentis Tosca, Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, API automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and AI-powered testing agents, while enabling delivery teams to achieve greater speed, reliability, and quality.
This role functions as a strategic technical advisor and enterprise architect, ensuring consistent automation practices, reusable assets, governance standards, and quality engineering excellence across Humana's technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities 

Enterprise Automation Strategy & Architecture 

  • Define and execute Humana's enterprise automation architecture strategy and roadmap. 
  • Establish reusable enterprise automation frameworks supporting web, mobile, API, integration, and end-to-end testing. 
  • Create standards, reference architectures, patterns, and best practices for quality engineering and automation across all business segments. 
  • Evaluate emerging automation technologies and AI-driven testing solutions to continuously improve engineering effectiveness. 
  • Serve as the enterprise automation subject matter expert for modern quality engineering practices. 

 

Automation Framework Engineering & Platform Enablement 

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable automation frameworks using technologies including Selenium, Playwright, Tricentis Tosca, REST Assured, Cypress, Appium, and related tools. 
  • Establish automation architecture patterns that support enterprise-scale testing across cloud-native, microservices, API-first, and distributed systems. 
  • Create reusable automation accelerators, libraries, components, templates, and testing utilities. 
  • Lead integration of automation frameworks into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and other enterprise delivery platforms. 
  • Drive continuous improvement of automation reliability, maintainability, performance, and execution efficiency. 
  • Support centralized automation platform capabilities that enable multiple delivery teams across the enterprise. 
  • Establish enterprise integration patterns across test management and delivery tools including Azure DevOps, qTest, Tosca, Jira, and CI/CD platforms. 
  • Enable end-to-end traceability between business requirements, user stories, test cases, automation assets, defects, releases, and production outcomes. 
  • Mentor quality engineers, SDETs, automation engineers, and technical leaders on enterprise automation practices. 
  • Create reusable playbooks, standards, training materials, and onboarding programs 

 

 

AI-Powered Quality Engineering & Intelligent Testing 

  • Define and implement AI-enabled testing strategies, tools, and practices across the organization. 
  • Lead development and adoption of AI-based testing agents capable of test generation, self-healing automation, defect prediction, risk-based testing, and intelligent test execution. 
  • Evaluate emerging Generative AI technologies and intelligent automation platforms for quality engineering use cases. 
  • Establish frameworks for AI-assisted test design, automated script generation, and test maintenance optimization. 
  • Partner with engineering teams to integrate AI capabilities into quality engineering workflows and delivery pipelines. 
  • Drive innovation through intelligent automation and predictive quality analytics. 

 

Enterprise Consulting & Architecture Leadership 

  • Provide architecture guidance and technical leadership to Quality Engineering and engineering teams across Humana business segments. 
  • Collaborate with solution architects, engineers, platform teams, and product delivery organizations to define automation strategies aligned with business goals. 
  • Conduct automation architecture reviews and provide recommendations for modernization and optimization. 
  • Support large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives involving automation, DevOps, cloud migration, and digital modernization. 
  • Partner with leadership teams to establish enterprise automation governance and standards. 

 

DevOps, CI/CD & Engineering Excellence 

  • Drive automation integration within modern CI/CD pipelines and DevOps operating models. 
  • Implement quality gates, automated validations, and shift-left testing strategies throughout the software development lifecycle. 
  • Establish automation execution strategies supporting continuous testing and continuous delivery. 
  • Partner with DevOps and Platform Engineering teams to optimize automation environments and execution infrastructure. 
  • Promote engineering excellence through automation-first delivery practices.

Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field. 
  • 10+ years of software quality engineering, automation engineering, SDET, or software engineering experience. 
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise automation frameworks. 
  • Deep expertise with automation technologies including:  
  • Selenium, Playwright, Tricentis Tosca, Cypress, Appium, API Automation frameworks 
  • Extensive experience with Azure DevOps (ADO), qTest, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps practices. 
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or similar. 
  • Experience implementing automation solutions for web, API, microservices, cloud-native, and distributed applications. 
  • Strong understanding of Agile, DevOps, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, and Continuous Delivery practices. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership, consulting, and stakeholder management skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, financial services, or other highly regulated industries. 
  • Experience implementing AI-driven testing tools and intelligent automation platforms. 
  • Experience building AI-based testing agents and autonomous quality engineering solutions. 
  • Knowledge of Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, and AI-assisted software testing. 
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP. 
  • Experience leading enterprise-wide quality engineering transformation initiatives.

Work at Home Requirements: To ensure Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees’ ability to work effectively, the self-provided internet service of Home or Hybrid Home/Office employees must meet the following criteria: At minimum, a download speed of 25 Mbps and an upload speed of 10 Mbps is required; wireless, wired cable or DSL connection is suggested. In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.
Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$156,600 - $215,400 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
