About Life Science Connect
Life Science Connect is a B2B media and data company serving the life sciences industry. We publish 15 industry websites and their email newsletters (including Bioprocess Online, Cell & Gene, Clinical Leader, Outsourced Pharma and Pharmaceutical Online), run sponsor-facing products such as Storefronts and supplier directories, and operate RFP Navigator, a platform for managing biopharma outsourcing RFPs. We are modernizing the user experience across all of it, and we are using AI to change how our content and data reach readers and clients.
The role
We're hiring our first dedicated UX/UI designer. You'll be a design partner to product, not only an executor of requirements: you'll help imagine and shape new experiences, products and interfaces for both our readers and our customers, then turn them into finished, buildable designs across web, email and SaaS. You'll work day-to-day with our Senior Product Manager, Audience & Data, alongside engineering, editorial and commercial teams.
The role starts as a 1099 contract as soon as possible, at about 22–28 hours a week. We plan to convert to a full-time position in Q1 2027. We're looking for someone who wants the full-time role. The contract start gets us working together sooner.
What you'll work on first
  1. Website UX across 15 sites. For our move to a new CMS, we have core page templates and a design system in Figma, and the matching components are already built in our Storybook component library on Chromatic. You'll redesign, refine and extend them: a sponsored "Related Content" sidebar for article pages, sponsor Storefront microsite pages, and a searchable supplier directory with tiers and filters. Then you'll roll the changes out across all 15 site themes.
  2. Email newsletter system. Design a modular email system and theme it into about 26 newsletter templates (editorial, sponsored and personalized "matched for you" sends). It has to render in Outlook, Gmail and Apple Mail, and work with mobile stacking, dark mode and images off.
  3. RFP Navigator. A UX refresh of our B2B SaaS platform for two audiences: drug developers who issue RFPs and the CDMOs and CROs who answer them. This covers the marketing site, onboarding and the core RFP workflows.
Next on the roadmap: interactive AI content experiences (research content you can ask questions of), personalized on-site and reader-agent experiences, and self-service data products for clients.
What you'll do
  • Partner with product to brainstorm and shape new experiences, products and interfaces for readers (the life science professionals who use our sites and newsletters) and customers (the sponsors and clients who buy our marketing, data and platform products).
  • Turn PM requirements, briefs and rough prototypes into wireframes and high-fidelity Figma designs: desktop, tablet and mobile, with all states (empty, loading, error, logged-in vs anonymous).
  • Present options and iterate with the PM, usually two or three review rounds per page type.
  • Work within the existing design system (Figma plus our Storybook component library in Chromatic): reuse what's already built, and add new components back to the shared library.
  • Spec designs for developers: layout, spacing, type, color tokens, interactions, responsive rules, content and data rules, accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and analytics events.
  • Answer developer questions and review built pages against the designs before release.
  • Use AI tools to move faster, and help the team adopt them.
What you bring (required skills)
  • About 5–7 years of professional UX/UI design experience.
  • A portfolio that shows work in at least two of these three areas: B2B SaaS or web application UX, content or media websites, and email or newsletter design.
  • Strong Figma skills, including working inside another team's design system.
  • Responsive design and clean developer handoff.
  • Practical knowledge of email design constraints: client rendering, mobile stacking, dark mode and image-off fallbacks.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility (WCAG 2.x AA).
  • AI fluency: you already use AI tools in your design workflow and can show how.
  • You're a self-starter. You take direction, work independently and communicate progress without being chased.
  • You can present your thinking clearly to product, editorial and commercial stakeholders.
Nice to have
  • Mobile app UX.
  • HTML/CSS, especially for email. We have engineers to build, but it helps if you can carry a design closer to code or a working prototype.
  • Life sciences, B2B publishing or media experience.
  • Data products, dashboards, or AI and conversational interfaces.
  • Designing against a coded component library (Storybook / Chromatic).
How we work
  • Remote, with a weekly working session with the PM plus reviews as needed.
  • Figma for design, specs and handoff, plus shared tools for tickets and feedback.
  • Life Science Connect owns all work product.

We do not offer visa sponsorship for this role.
