Tempus and Infutor Data Solutions are just two of the companies making news in 2021.

If you’ve read part one of our mid-year featured companies, you know that companies in the Chicago tech scene are continuing to make waves. 

In part two, it’s no different: The following six companies are working on exciting projects and, in some cases, have opened up the floodgates for hiring new talent. To see where you might find a fit, see what companies have been up to recently and take a look at open roles across the city.

What they do: Tempus is building the world’s largest library of molecular and clinical data and an operating system to make that data accessible and useful.

For fans of funding: In December, Tempus announced it raised $200 million, bringing the valuation of the company to a cool $8.1 billion.  

Current openings: With more than 10 openings each on its sales, operations, data and analytics, and developer and engineering teams — plus other available positions across the company — the Tempus team is eager for new talent to join their ranks

What they do: Inspirant Group is a consultancy that specializes in services related to strategy and operations, talent and organization, and technology and data. 

A people leader: Inspirant’s No. 2 hire wasn’t a developer or salesperson. Rather, it was Chief People Officer Meighan Newhouse, who has since been promoted to the company’s chief executive officer. “Being a small, nimble, boutique organization allows our team to play to our strengths,” Newhouse told Built In Chicago. “We know what we are good at, and we stick to it.” 

The “unconsultants”: You’ve heard of consultants, but Inspirant Group prefers calling the group by a different name: unconsultants. “The unconsultant culture is key at Inspirant,” an employee told Built In Chicago. “They pride themselves on focusing more on the person and less on the billable hours.”

What they do: NowSecure is a mobile-first, mobile-only app security testing automation company. In addition to scalable automation software, they offer users visibility into supply chain risk across mobile-app portfolios as well as expert mobile app testing services and training courseware.

By the numbers: Founded in 2009, the company has more than $27 million in funding and boasts more than 115 employees. NowSecure’s latest funding round came in 2019

The CEO says: “Millions of people are using apps on a daily basis that have major security and privacy issues,” NowSecure CEO Alan Snyder said following the company’s 2019 Series B. “NowSecure is addressing this fundamental, global-scale problem that puts businesses and consumers at direct risk.”

What they do: Smokeball helps small law firms manage emails and documents through a digital filing system in the cloud.

The VP of people & culture says: “At Smokeball, we believe that our culture is just as important as our product and we make intentional decisions to support that belief. Our core values hang on our walls, they inform every decision we make and every interaction we have.”

infutor data solutions

What they do: Consumer identity management firm Infutor Data Solutions provides brands with customer data to help them make informed marketing and risk mitigation decisions.

The data: Recently, Infutor introduced the Total Consumer Insights, a “third-party dataset that provides privacy-compliant behavioral and household attributes on 266 million US consumers across 120 million households,” the company said in a press release

By the numbers: Founded in 2003, Infutor has raised $40 million to date and has more than 200 employees.

What they do: Milyli — an acronym for “Make it like you like it” — builds software that makes managing sensitive information tasks easier.

Cross-city collaborating: Since 2008, the company has partnered with e-discovery platforms like Relativity, which also calls Chicago home. 

Making an impact: At the start of the pandemic, Milyli’s leadership team announced that they would sponsor a $500 donation on behalf of each employee to an organization or individual impacted by COVID-19.
