It's no secret — Chicago knows food.

That’s probably why Sprig — a San Francisco-based organic meal delivery app for iOS and Android — has decided to expand its services to the Windy City.

Designed for busy individuals looking for healthy, organic, and home-cooked quality food, Sprig hopes to be the go-to choice for consumers who need fast, ready-to-eat meals that taste great and are cost effective.

Unlike similar food prep apps like BlueApron, Sprig offers three unique, healthy, and organic meals that are packed and prepared locally, showcasing a menu that changes daily. Their $9 - $13 dinner plates are available Monday through Friday, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sprig plans to launch its lunch service later in the summer. In San Francisco, they’ve already served more than 500,000 meals with an average delivery time of just 15 minutes.

Founded in November 2013 by tech gurus Gagan Biyani, Matt Kent, and Neeraj Berry, Sprig started exploring other markets early in 2015. They launched in Palo Alto in January, with Chicago marking their third expansion to date.

"We chose Chicago because it is one of the pre-eminent food cities in the world with an amazing technology community," said Sprig co-founder Neeraj Berry. "We know that Chicagoans work hard, and we think you deserve to come home and enjoy a delicious meal without compromising quality, nutrition or taste."

It’s not just convenience that matters with Sprig. In order to ensure the highest caliber of quality, they’ve assembled an all-star team of chefs, including founding executive chef (and former Google executive chef) Nate Keller, Food & Wine magazine’s ‘People’s Best New Pastry Chef’ Jessica Entzel, and culinary advisor Kyle Connaughton, who has worked at some of the best restaurants in the country.

Sprig uses only the freshest ingredients that are low in oils, fats, and salt, focusing on clean cooking, organic produce, and hormone-free, antibiotic-free, GMO-free, and free-range meats.

"We're on a mission to make a global impact on our modern food system," Berry said. "Expanding out of California and into Chicago is a major milestone."
