Back in November 2012, developer Adrian Holavaty launched his latest creation: Soundslice. Holovaty and co-founder PJ Macklin built Soundslice to make sheet music and guitar tablature interactive - with the goal of helping people learn music more efficiently.

Not ones to rest, however, Holovaty and Macklin have been heads down the past six months to launch Soundslice's newest product: an entirely web-based sheet music player that adds standard notation sheet music.

Soundslice was built off of the YouTube API, allowing a community of Soundslice users to annotate any music video on Youtube. With just over 300 videos annotated, or currently being worked on, the YouTube Tab Community is growing steadily.

Currently available for Soundslice's Pitch Perfect (the platform for selling sheet music and tabs) offering, this new player syncs an audio recording to the standard notation sheet music while maintaining the tab that was available in the previous version. This gives users the ability to see both the exact notes they should be playing as well as how it should sound, all while listening to the studio recording the artist provided.

Other features made available in the standard notation player include:

  • Vertical as opposed to horizontal display, making it easy to look ahead to future notes
  • A synthetic audio option - helpful when trying to learn specific parts of more complex songs
  • Ability to slow the audio down more granularly - the YouTube version only allows for half or full speed

Soundslice is also making progress on the monetization front, announcing recently that they have signed a licensing deal with leading guitar instruction site Jamplay. Pitch Perfect is growing as well. Candyrat Records is coming on board to sell their tabs and SoundSlice continues to add independent artists to the Pitch Perfect platform.
