Shadow

Shadow

<div>Imagine walking home from class. It is a crisp autumn afternoon, the sun is shining, and you’re distracted thinking about an upcoming midterm. Suddenly, two men appear behind you. They snatched your purse and take off running. You call for help but no one comes. You reach for your phone to dial the police but suddenly remember, it’s not in your pocket, instead is in your purse. This is a situation that befells many college students each year and prompted co-founders Nishana Ismail and Tim Deppen to form Servabo.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>The name Servabo derives from the Latin servāre, meaning to watch over or keep guard. Our aim is to connect people with the assistance they need in emergency situations. In the US alone, a violent crime occurs every 26 seconds and it is estimated that 1 in 5 female college students will be the victim of sexual assault. We at Servabo Inc. came up with a better solution for contacting help in the event of a crime – and Shadow was born. Our technology enables you to instantly reach out to friends and family when it matters most so you never feel helpless. With smarter tech, we can create safer communities, campuses, and cities.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Nishana and Tim have backgrounds in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and they formed Servabo in August 2013, after winning the 2013 Cozad New Venture Competition. Servabo was later recognized as the best student startup in the 2014 Champaign County Innovation Celebration was amongst the 3 finalist for Startup Voodoo’s most promising Midwest startup competition.</div><div>&nbsp;</div>
