Coyote Logistics, a growing Chicago-based shipping company, will be hiring 500 additional employees and will be expanding its Logan Square headquarters after being infused with a $2.5 million grant from the State of Illinois. Coyote Logistics owns no trucks, but has a digital dispatch app called CoyoteGO that has helped to propel the eight-year old company to over 2,000 employees and $1.04 billion in revenue.

In an industry typically coordinated by phone calls, faxes and old-fashioned paperwork, the CoyoteGO app makes it particularly easy for truck drivers to manage their logistics. Via the app drivers can enter all of their load information into their cell phone and keep customers up-to-date while on the road. Services like this have drawn in a lot of customers and the company handles transportation for more than 6,000 loads per day.

Coyote is the second largest freight broker in the United States, behind C.H. Robinson. This last March Coyote grew its size significantly when it merged with Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Access America Transport. Back then, CEO Jeff Silver said to Built In Chicago “more trucks and coverage across North America means reduced costs and cheaper pricing for our partners. The company with the most scale wins."

Coyote has been actively putting that belief into practice. In 2013, Coyote Logistics hired 175 new employees in Chicago. Previously, it said it had plans to hire 250 Chicago-based employees by the end of 2014. Now using its new funds the company will be hiring 500 employees over the next three years in sales, software development and IT services.

According to CEO Silver, Coyote’s Chicago location has also been a boon to the company’s aggressive hiring and growth plans.

"One of the most significant advantages to Coyote being headquartered in Chicago is it has made it incredibly easy to hire from a pool of highly-skilled workers,” said Silver in a statement. “We hire employees from across North America who want to live and work in Illinois. We are excited to expand in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago – it’s a great place to live and do business."
