7 companies to help you hibernate all winter

Don’t let 2015’s unseasonably warm December fool you — even a comparatively mild Chicago winter can be absolutely brutal.

If you’re the kind of person who tends toward hibernating all winter, there are tons of companies out there just dying to enable you. With on-demand delivery services for everything from groceries to fresh laundry, art supplies, and booze, here’s our guide to not leaving your apartment again until March.

When you’ve been avoiding the outdoors for a week straight and finally emptied out your freezer, you may be in the mood for something that doesn’t remind you of frozen pizza. Sprig delivers healthy meals to your door, helping you feel a little better about skipping your trip to the gym.

Already caught up on your Netflix and HBO, and looking for something new to keep you occupied? With instructional videos for all kinds of DIY projects, Blitsy can help you discover your crafty side. And if you don’t feel like leaving home for supplies, Blitsy will send you the tools and materials you need. Make yourself a knitted hat or a sweater vase, or send sweet homemade cards to your friends.

Avoid freezing hands and back-and-forth trips to the laundromat through sleet and puddles by having your laundry picked up and delivered back at your doorstep. As an added bonus, you don’t have to spend your Sunday afternoon at the laundromat waiting to transfer your clothes to the dryer, leaving you free to do whatever it is you do on Sunday afternoons.

Having friends over or looking to sip a hot toddy while reading a book or getting your craft on? Thirstie delivers beer, wine, and spirits to a number of Chicago neighborhoods. Their site also lists cocktail recipes if you’re looking to spice things up.

Missing home cooked meals? Running out of dog food? Instacart partners with a number of stores including Whole Foods and Target to deliver groceries, household items, personal care products, and pet supplies.

Instead of hitting the bars, challenge your friends to a game of trivia or a draw-off using your phones as controllers.

Sometimes, going outside just can’t be avoided. For those occasions, there's wool sweaters. If you don’t feel like running from store to store looking for one, Trunk Club will deliver a handpicked box for you to choose from. That way, at least you can bundle up before you go.
