Chicago-based startup ShipBob announced Thursday that it will be hiring 100 employees at its Cicero fulfillment center over the next six months.
ShipBob handles the fulfillment side of e-commerce. Businesses simply connect their store to the platform, import their products and send ShipBob their inventory. ShipBob stores that inventory in one or several of its fulfillment centers around the country and ships the products to the business’ customers. The idea is that, with ShipBob’s platform and conveniently located fulfillment centers, businesses will be able to offer their customers a cheaper, quicker shipping experience.
The company told Built In in an email that it has seen a “huge surge in e-commerce demand” in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis in the United States. To meet this demand, ShipBob has reconfigured its warehouse management system to prioritize shipping out “essential goods” first and will hire more fulfillment associates, fulfillment associate team leads and area managers.
ShipBob has increased its hourly pay by $2 and has extended its paid sick days to give employees more time to properly recover should they get sick, according to a company representative.
The company also announced Thursday that it has launched the ShipBob Giving Fund to help support workers experiencing issues related to school and business closings and health concerns amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
