C|S|S Provides Chicago Youth with Free Web Development Skills

Chicago Software Solutions recently partnered with The Black Star Project to teach students the fundamentals of website development.  In an effort to provide local youth career building skills, C|S|S implemented and led a 15-week program for students to build a website for seven different local Chicago businesses.

Spearheaded by our President, Dan Phillips, and assisted by C|S|S Marketing Manager, LeMarc Johnson, the program was designed to give young minority students an after school opportunity to learn the skills necessary for web development, while also gaining real world business experience.

Each student was tasked with finding a local Chicago business that did not have a website. Once identified, the students called the businesses to offer a free new website. Business owners then met with the students to discuss branding requirements. With guidance from the C|S|S program instructors, the students used the specifications to build the websites. Students were exposed to the essential aspects of the development and deployment of a website such as client consultations, photography, web editing, copy writing, and site configuration.

We are wrapping up the Youth Web Development Program with a Demo Day taking place on Wednesday 8/19 at The Black Star Project (directions) where students will showcase the websites to their clients. Feel free to join us as we celebrate the culmination of a wonderful initiative. Please email [email protected] with any questions.
