Although the weather in Chicago is being difficult, finding a fulfilling job shouldn’t be. Being challenged in the workplace and learning new skills is a prerequisite to a fulfilling career in today's world — plus, it doesn't hurt to have some fun with your coworkers every now and then.

Below, we’ve highlighted eight companies looking for new team members to help propel their missions. Leaders at these companies shared some of the specific traits they seek out in candidates, and some of their best perks and benefits staff can take advantage of once they’re onboard.

FTD Companies leadership

What they do: FTD Companies is a worldwide provider of floral and gifted items, as well as operator of a number of Gifts.com, Shari's Berries and ProFlowers.

What they look for: “The first filter I apply [to candidates] is related to fit,” said Executive Vice President of Floral Segment Tom Moeller. “We are guided by values. We call this our 'compass,' which includes customer focus, respect, trust, selflessness, positive urgency and calculated risk taking. These characteristics are what separate the best from the all the rest. By hiring associates that embrace and live these principles, we will drive our engagement and performance long term.”

What they offer: Team members can take advantage of warming temperatures via half-work days during the summer and earn performance bonuses for their work during the other four-and-a-half days of the week. And in addition to traditional health benefits, a 401(k) match and family medical leave, staff also receive generous discounts on all the FTD brands.

What they do: Through its recruitment CRM platform, Hireology helps companies attract, hire and retain excellent talent with the multitude of tools offered in its full-service suite.

What they look for: “We look for candidates that demonstrate and embrace our five core values: creating 'wow' moments, pathological optimism, eagerness to improve, owning the result and no assholes,” said Vice President of People Shannon Ward. “We set lofty goals and we move very quickly. We look for individuals who are energetic and passionate about their personal success. The person who will be successful here gets excited at the prospect of setting high goals for themselves and their career, and works tirelessly to achieve them.”

What they offer: Hireology team members are treated to an unlimited vacation policy to spend time with loved ones and a fully-paid parental leave program to care for new familial additions. Teams are rewarded with regularly hosted events and outings to celebrate their success. And in-office amenities include cold brew coffee on tap, free snacks, a gym and a casual dress code.

10th Magnitude team in outdoor outing

What they do: Via the Microsoft Azure platform, 10th Magnitude works to help companies transition to the use of cloud-based solutions aimed at increasing their agility and efficiency.

What they look for: “Our culture is the most important thing to us, so hiring the right people is always our goal with interviewing,” said Director of Consulting Operations Casey Ryan. “We look for people who tinker, show an aptitude and initiative to learn, are easy to get along with, are collaborative, communicate well, and are excited about what they do. If you love what you do, there's evidence of you taking it into your personal life. If you say you have a desire to learn, there are examples of that in your work history. If you get along with people and you communicate well, you ask questions as you try to get to know us.”

What they offer: 10th Magnitude takes the summer seriously and treats staff to regular ‘MagniGrills’ on its rooftop deck when the weather permits. Their office pug uses its charm to keep spirits high and an onsite gym keeps wellness up. The company also offers team members tried and true health benefits, a 401(k) match and opportunities to work remotely.

Clearcover staff chatting in a conference room

What they do: Clearcover is an insurance provider that leverages an API allowing drivers to get quotes, secure coverage and manage their claims quickly and hassle-free.

What they look for: “Our company is hiring roles across all departments that require a variety of skill sets,” Vice President of People Vikki Caruso. “However, we always seek the same thing in everyone that we hire — do they uphold our core values? By hiring values-first using a culture-based interview process, we are able to sustain an inclusive and empowering culture. Ultimately, we seek individuals with a diverse array of experiences and viewpoints because there is so much value to be gained from embracing our differences and bringing that to bear via our product and customer experiences.”

What they offer: Clearcover offers medical, dental and vision support as well as a 401(k) match, company equity, insurance for pets and paternal leave. The company also provides teams with unlimited vacation time for them to unwind, a professional development budget for them evolve their skills and paid volunteer time for them to give back.

PerkSpot also offers teams a tenure-based educational sabbatical that allows employees time off to further develop their skills. Additionally, the company has a pet-friendly office, a private gym, company happy hours and, last but not least, several out-of-office events.

Price f(x) team at happy hour

What they do: Price f(x) offers B2B and B2C companies a cloud-based configure, price and quote SaaS platform that allows them to determine their optimal pricing and increase their margins.

What they look for: “Beyond having exceptional, relevant skills and experience, we look for people with a strong desire to succeed,” said Customer Solutions Manager Jerry Danks. “Our company's customer-focused, transparent culture is important to us, and we search for people who embrace and help encourage this environment. For technical roles, we value skills in Java, Groovy, databases and the Agile Scrum framework. And knowledge of pricing is indeed a great nice-to-have.”

What they offer: In addition to traditional health benefits and generous vacation time, Price f(x) wants its staff to work in ways best suited to their personal lives, so they can work remotely two days a week and have flexible hours. Oh, and did we mention the company sends its team members to a huge, annual party in Prague?

All Campus team in cooking outing

What they do: All Campus helps higher education institutions increase their enrollment numbers through a variety of tools that include marketing, analytics, research and more.

What they look for: “All Campus seeks out employees who are resourceful problem solvers, candid communicators and, most importantly, kind individuals,” said Executive Vice President of Human Resources Heather Shulick. “Our teams work closely with students to find the right educational opportunities and build productive collaborations with university faculty and administration. As the company continues to grow and debut technology solutions for recruitment, nurturing those relationships remains our top priority. That means hiring people at every level of the organization who are always ready to learn new things and are considerate to others.”

What they offer: All Campus gives all its team members an annual credit for them to further educate themselves in areas of interest to them — regardless of whether a topic actually applies to their job. Working hours are shorter during the summer and flexible  every other time of the year. Team members are also given two paid volunteer days a year.

Shiftgig team members chatting in their office

What they do: Shiftgig's cloud-based and data-driven platform enables companies with large pools of flexible talent — such as staffing firms — to more efficiently engage and redeploy workers.

What they look for: “We look for candidates who are passionate, thoughtful, committed and innovative. I see alignment to our mission and these four core values as the underlying key that drives all of our team members' motivation,” said CEO Rick Bowman. “We are a small and nimble team, so from a skills perspective, we look for team members who can jump into different roles when needed, like back-end engineers who will jump into the front-end or mobile engineers who can help drive a product design session. Having to support such a high volume of engagement without our platforms means we leverage cutting-edge technology to build for scale and performance.”

What they offer: Traditional benefits, an onsite gym and family medical leave are some of the health-based goodies Shiftgig team members can expect. Staff can also take advantage of unlimited vacation, a fully stocked kitchen, regular lunch and learns and sponsored happy hours to celebrate wins.
